Its name comes from a Barcelona disco called Bikini. The things that most characterized that disco was an outdoor area, where there were bars that served the house sandwich, a copy of a French sandwich. The place and its sandwich became so popular in the city that people began to ask for “a bikini” in all the bars in Barcelona and, over time, in Catalonia.
